With just three weeks to go before pitchers and catchers report to spring training, here are three things we’ll be keeping an eye on across the baseball world all day today:
1. Transfers to be made official:
According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox are expected to make their one-year contract outfielder Adam Duvall official earlier this week. However, this is far from the only signing that could become official in the coming days. Aroldis ChapmanThe one-year deal with the Royals could also become official after it was agreed late last week. brian andersonThe one-year pact with the Brewers and nelson cross‘s one-year deal with the Padres are other deals still waiting to be made official; Cruz’s pact, in particular, was agreed almost two weeks ago without any official announcement so far. All four clubs have full 40-man rosters, so a corresponding move will be necessary in all three cases to make room for the club’s new acquisition.
2. Is a Gurriel signing imminent?
Reports over the weekend indicated that the market for first baseman and 2023 World Series champion yuli gurriel it could be heating up, with the Marlins and Twins among the interested teams. Miami, in particular, was said to be “moving toward a deal” with Gurriel, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and Brian McTaggart. Both clubs are interesting for Gurriel. In Minnesota, a veteran right-handed complement to young first baseman alex kirilloff makes sense, whereas in Miami, Gurriel could provide an additional option in a first base/designated hitter combination that already includes garrett cooper Y Jorge Soler. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, it’s also possible Gurriel could spend time at second and third base for the Marlins, should he sign there.
