The official poster for Scream 6 is out… and it’s fantastic. The horror franchise continues the trend of gathering the film’s cast around a central focal point, so it’s not very original, but this new movie art poster does it with incredible impact. Oh, and there’s a fan theory about a secret message hidden in the poster, can you identify it?
We’ve been on a roller coaster recently when it comes to new movie posters. For example, the recent Ant-Man 3 posters are a Photoshop nightmare, while the John Wick 4 poster wowed fans and even managed to present an incredible optical illusion. Thankfully, the new Scream 6 poster is more John Wick than MCU.
When the Scream 6 poster was released, fans went crazy for this design; @thehorrorchick simply tweeted “this poster is EVERYTHING”. while other fans of the film franchise assumed it was fan-made because it was so good (see below).

But let’s talk about that secret message. Have you noticed that only two characters on the poster are looking at the viewer? Fans are convincing themselves this suggests he’s revealing who the new Ghostface is: “The killer is on this poster,” @storytellrwendy wrote enthusiastically on Twitter. But, seriously? A series like Scream that constantly plays by expectations wouldn’t be so obvious. I’m not so sure.
This Easter egg hunt has fans analyzing where others are looking too, suggesting that this is a map of who may be murdering whom and an order for the nasty demise of the characters. Again, I’m not so sure, but you can follow the thread on Twitter (below).

Whether or not you believe the fan hype, what’s great about this new Scream 6 poster isn’t simply that the design is poster art perfection, but that it has fans talking, watching, and invested in the brand. .
It seems like every new movie poster goes through a rough patch right now so I’m enjoying seeing fans love the new Scream 6 poster and thankfully not seeing any backlash when the new Titanic poster design came out recently.
