- Salesforce dimmed the brightness of a logo at its new Chicago office building at the request of a city council member.

The bright lights of the tech industry are literally dimming.
In early January, Salesforce, which will move into nearly 60-story Chicago office space later this year, capped off its Midwest headquarters with a bright fluorescent logo.
The luminescence seemed welcome at first, with the city’s deputy mayor, Samir Mayekar tweeting about logo installation on January 11.
Within days, however, Windy City residents began complaining that the lights were too bright, according to tweets compiled in a story by the Block Club Chicago online newspaper, which first reported the news.
“Now how can we turn down the brightness? This is an eye nuisance and a public nuisance,” said a Twitter user named Dusty Sheldon. tweeted in response to Mayekar’s tweet on January 14.
Another user named gabriel x. Miguel tweeted that the logo was “glitty” and “possibly ugly”.

According to the Block Club Chicago report, Brendan Reilly, a councilman for Chicago’s 42nd District, asked Salesforce to lower the brightness. The adjustment went into effect Wednesday, and Salesforce also agreed to turn off lights at 11 p.m. every night, Reilly’s office told Block Club Chicago.
A Salesforce spokesperson also told Block Club Chicago that between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., the brightness of the logo dropped by 70%, between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. pm – 5 am every day.
Salesforce has been planning a major move to Chicago for the past several years. In 2018, the company signed a lease for a 500,000-square-foot space that is part of a building complex called Wolf Point, which sits at the fork of the Chicago River.
Construction was scheduled to begin in 2020, according to Curbed. The official move is scheduled for this year, according to the real estate information company CoStar. The Chicago City Council approved the logo in April 2022.
Salesforce did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
