- Republican Rep. Mike Turner called President Biden a “serial classified document hoarder” after more documents were found at his residence.
- The DOJ said they found more than half a dozen documents in their search of Biden’s Wilmington home.
- Turner previously suggested that Donald Trump had hundreds of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago to help him write his memoirs.
Republican Rep. Mike Turner, who suggested that former President Donald Trump may have taken classified documents in order to write his memoirs, had harsher words for President Joe Biden.
Justice Department investigators said Friday they found more than half a dozen documents, some of which were classified, during their search of Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, The New York Times reported. Some documents date from his time as senator and others from his time as vice president.
“Apparently, he has become a serial hoarder of classified documents,” Turner said of Biden on Sunday morning in “Face the Nation” on CBS News. “Why did you have these? Who did you show them to? I mean, the only reason you can think of why someone would take classified documents out of a classified space and out of their home is to show them to someone.”
Turner, the top Republican and likely future chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, also questioned whether the recovered documents were “connected to the Biden family business.”

The Biden documentary drama began in November when his lawyers revealed they found a “small number” of classified documents in Biden’s offices at his Washington think tank, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Additional documents were found in her garage in Wilmington on December 20, and five additional documents were found in the storage room near the garage in January, Insider previously reported.
By comparison, the FBI discovered 11 sets of classified documents in a search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in August. Some 300 classified documents in Trump’s possession since he left office have been recovered; It is currently unclear exactly how many documents have been found on Biden, according to the Associated Press.
When the FBI seized about 20 boxes of documents from Trump’s estate in August, Turner suggested that Trump might have taken the documents home to write his memoirs.
“Well, I don’t know. I mean, you have to ask him. But certainly, we all know that all former presidents have access to their documents. That’s how they write their memoirs,” Turner said, previously reported by Insider. “They don’t have, you know, a great memory of everything that happened in their administration.”
He added at the time that he would be surprised if Trump’s collection of documents “rose to the level of an immediate threat to national security.”
Both incidents prompted investigations by special attorneys, but Turner appeared to have more concerns about Biden’s classified documents.
“I think this looks more like a cover-up than an investigation,” Turner said of the Justice Department search of Biden’s home.
