“It’s okay. It’s going to take a little while to get back to normal,” the former House speaker told CNN’s Chris Wallace in a new interview, which was previewed Friday ahead of its Sunday air date.

Wallace noted that Paul Pelosi has been seen in public multiple times since the attack. He was seen in the audience Tuesday when President Joe Biden welcomed the Golden State Warriors to the White House in Washington, on the House floor in early January for the opening of the 118th Congress, and in Statuary Hall in mid-January. December for the unveiling of a portrait in honor of his wife.

“She’s been off for a bit because the doctor said she had something to look forward to,” Nancy Pelosi said, adding: “So, again, one day at a time.”

In late October, David DePape, 42, was accused of breaking into Pelosis’s San Francisco home looking for the House speaker. She ended up hitting her husband with a hammer, hitting his head, right arm and hands.

When asked for more details about the nature of her lingering injuries, the congresswoman told Wallace that many of the superficial injuries had healed.

“Tendons, you know all that. But the head is something else, ”she said.

“Anyone who has had a head injury knows to be very careful. You have to be careful with the movement. You have to be careful with the light. You have to be careful with the sound. And it just takes a while,” she continued.

“You get very tired, but, you know… it will probably take another three or four months, according to the doctors, for him to really be himself.”

Authorities say DePape had planned to kidnap the speaker, who was in Washington at the time.

“I feel very sad about what happened, but also sadder that the person was looking for me,” Nancy Pelosi told Wallace. “My dear husband, who is not even that political really, paid the price.”

DePape has entered two not guilty pleas related to the incident, one in separate state and federal cases.
