According to a New York Times author profile, the book is inspired by the harrowing true story of a young Dutchman who was the sole survivor of the 2010 Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 crash in Libya. “Napolitano’s story imagines the aftermath of a similar story, in which Edward is the only person to walk away from a plane crash.
It is explained that “as Edward and a diverse set of people affected by the tragedy try to make sense of life after the accident, unexpected friendships, romances, and communities are formed.” the stars of the series connie britton, taylor schilling, Colin O’Brien, amy forsyth, Eva Ariel folder, Brittany S. Hall, Idris Debrand, carter hudson, Maxwell Jenkins, Jenna Qureshi, Audrey Corsa, ana uzele, Ivan Shaw Y Dario Ladani Sanchez.
Katims spoke about trying not to cry while editing the series: “The embarrassing thing for me has been being in the editing rooms, seeing cuts of the show and starting to get emotional in front of the editor and then trying not to cry. because it’s ridiculous to cry in front of [an editor] about the words you wrote. So I’m trying not to cry, and trying not to cry, then these noises come out… that’s happened to me a lot.”
Here is the description of the book:
One summer morning, twelve-year-old Edward Adler, his beloved older brother, their parents, and 183 other passengers board a flight in Newark bound for Los Angeles. Among them are a Wall Street wunderkind, a young woman coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy, a wounded veteran returning from Afghanistan, a septuagenarian business magnate, and a free-spirited woman on the run from her controlling husband. And then, tragically, the plane crashes. Edward is the only survivor.
Edward’s story captures the nation’s attention, but he struggles to find a place for himself in a world without his family. He still feels that a part of him has stayed in heaven, forever tied to the plane and all his traveling companions. But then he makes an unexpected discovery, one that will lead him to the answers to some of life’s deepest questions: when you’ve lost everything, how do you find yourself? How do you discover your purpose? What does it mean to not just survive, but to truly live?
The first three episodes of dear edward will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 3, 2023.
