A man found inside a white pickup truck linked to a Lunar New Year massacre that left 10 people dead and 10 others injured in Southern California was found dead Sunday afternoon after what authorities believe was a fatal injury. self inflicted bullet.
Law enforcement sources told Fox News the man shot himself and died after a confrontation with a “entrenched suspect” in a pickup truck in Torrance, located about 30 miles southwest of Monterey Park, where Saturday’s shooting took place.
Additional details were not immediately available.
“I also want to mention that there is a tactical incident occurring in the city of Torrance,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said during an earlier news conference. “People have asked if that’s their suspect. We don’t know.”
“It’s a suspicious barricaded situation. We’re working with one of our partner agencies, the Torrance Police Department, to resolve that. We believe there is a person inside that vehicle.”
Luna said police are working to resolve the situation of the entrenched suspect in the “safest way” and that the suspect inside the van “possibly” could be the suspect in the mass shooting.
Local reports later on Sunday indicated that a body was reportedly found inside the van.
“A body has been found inside the white van that allegedly belonged to the suspect in the Monterey Park mass shooting,” Bryan Hernandez, a producer for News Channel 3-12, wrote on Twitter.
Authorities confirmed that 10 people were killed and at least 10 others injured and taken to local hospitals after a man opened fire on people shortly after the Lunar New Year festivities ended in the city. The shooting took place on West Garvey Avenue around 10:22 p.m., according to authorities.

The victims include five men and five women and all were “probably” of Asian descent, according to Luna.
Monterey Park is located about 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles and has an approximately 65% Asian-American population, the LA Times reported. Authorities described the suspect early Sunday as an Asian man between the ages of 30 and 50, but did not release any additional information or a potential motive for the shooting.
The sheriff’s office released the first photos of the suspect Sunday, showing a man who is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing a hat, glasses and a winter coat in the photos released by authorities. They said they were withholding the name of the suspect.
