Diddy ‘demanded’ that Travis Scott perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards

Travis Scott will make his first televised performance since the Astroworld tragedy in November at the Billboard Music Awards, and it seems to be Diddy’s doing.

Diddy (born Sean Combs) is hosting the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, which air Sunday, May 15 on NBC, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Shortly after Scott’s performance was announced on Monday, Diddy, 52, took to Instagram with a video revealing that he ‘demanded’ Scott perform.

‘Hey what’s up, Happy Monday y’all. I have some great breaking news, this just in. For the Billboard Music Awards, I made a request, I made a demand, I said my brother Travis Scott has to perform,’ Diddy began.

Diddy added that he’s both hosting and executive producing the show, and that, ‘Travis Scott has to perform.

‘And NBC said yes. So it’s going down. Travis Scott will be performing. Yes. Let’s go. That’s love,’ Diddy said.

He also spoke about insisting on Scott performing during an interview with Revolt Black News, where he stressed Scott should be forgiven. 

‘There will be no canceling on my watch. Love is about forgiveness… so that was why it was important for me to have Travis Scott perform. It’s going to be a great night,’ he said.

While Scott’s Billboard Music Awards appearance will be his first televised performance since the Astroworld tragedy, he returned to performing over the weekend.

He performed alongside Migos rapper Quavo at the Miami Grand Prix weekend at E11Even Miami. 

He also performed at a private event outside of Coachella last month.

Scott has kept a relatively low profile since his November 5 performance at Astroworld in his hometown of Houston that turned deadly.

A massive crowd crush at NRG Park in Houston lead to the deaths of eight people that night, and two more deaths in the hospital days later.

The cause of death for all 10 individuals was listed as accidental compressive asphyxiation.

25 people were hospitalized with early reports claiming there were as many as 300 injured, though new court filings claim nearly 5,000 people were actually injured.

The attorneys who are acting as council for the plaintiffs filed court documents claiming there were actually 732 claims for, ‘injuries that required extensive medical treatment,’ along with, ‘1,649 tied to less extensive treatment, and 2,540 claims for injuries where the severity is still under review,’ equaling over 4,900 injuries total.
